The number of honey bees in a hive is growing according to the equation

N = N 0e 0.017t,

where t is the time in days. If the bees swarm when their number isquadrupled, find how many days until this hive swarms. (Round your answer to the nearest day

Set N = 4N0.

4 = e0.017t

Take logs of both sides (use natural logs)

ln(4) = 0.017*t

Divide both sides by 0.017

t = ln(4)/0.017

$${\mathtt{t}} = {\frac{{ln}{\left({\mathtt{4}}\right)}}{{\mathtt{0.017}}}} \Rightarrow {\mathtt{t}} = {\mathtt{81.546\: \!727\: \!124\: \!699\: \!448\: \!2}}$$

t = 82 days to the nearest day
