Elliot had some red, blue and green pens for sale. There were 48 more

blue pens than green pens. He had 10 more red pens than blue pens.

After selling 3/4 of the blue pens and 1/2 of the green pens, there were 315

pens left.

(a) How many green pens did Elliot have at first?

(b) How many pens did Elliot have in total at first?

You have three simultaneous equations:

b = g + 48

r = b + 10

b/4 + g/2 + r = 315

Solve these for b, g and r to get the answers.

Red pens => 58+x Blue pens => 48+x Green pens => x

He sold 3/4 blue pens and 1/2 green pens.

(58+x) +1/4(48+x) + x/2 = 315

x = 140
