Parallel lines.....what does that remind me of....parallelogram!

 

In a parallelogram, the sum of the angles is 360. Therefore, we can say this:

 

2(71) + 2(51 + y - 6) = 360

142 + 102 + 2y - 12 = 360

232 + 2y = 360

2y = 128

y = 64

 

Not only do we know the answer, but we also know now that 'x' was a red herring.
