On a road trip, Lota drives 55 miles each hour. The table below shows how far she travels each hour.

h hrs of driving123456
m miles completed55110165220275330

Which equation represents the relationship between h, the number of hours she drives and m the number of miles she completes?

m =
m =
m = 55 h

Try these one at a time:

The first formula:  m = h/55.

Replace h with 1, m = 1/55  --- this doesn't work.

The second formula:  m = 55/h

Replace h with 1, m = 55/1 = 55; replace h with 2, m = 55/2 =27.5 --- this doesn't work.

The third formula:  m = 55h

Replace h with 1:  m = 55(1) = 55. Replace h with 2:  m = 55(2) = 110. Replace h with 3:  m = 55(3) = 165. Replace h with 4:  m = 55(4) = 220. Replace h with 5:  m = 55(5) = 275. Replace h with 6:  m = 55(6) = 330.    --- these all work!
