The latitude of a city is 53.35(degrees) north. If we assume that the earth is a sphere of diameter 12750km, find the distance form the city to the nearest point on the equator, travelling along the earth's surface.

I got the answer 1889.479 km, but my book says it's actually 11872km.

Am I wrong? And if so, how do I solve the question properly?

Actually .... I only get 1/2 of that    ...   5935.97 km

Pi x D = circumference    then   53.35/360 times that is the arc length to the equator
