Modify one digit in the number 31743 can make it a multiple of 281. What is the number after change
I set up a long multiplication. 281 * boxH boxT boxU = 31743 (where one digit is wrong.)
I assumed for the moment that the units digit really is 3
3*281=843
four is already in the tens column. So this would mean that BoxT would have to be 0
going a little further I found that this could not work.
So that means that either the units digit or the 10s digit was incorrect.
31700 divided by 281 = 112 and a bit 112 is to small, so I will just try some numbers that are a bit bigger.
113*281=31753
bingo, there is the answer.
The 4 needs to be a 5.
