An 8-sided game piece has the shape of two identical square pyramids attached at their bases. The perimeter of the square is 8080 mm and the slant height of each pyramid is 1717 mm. What is the distance from the apex of one pyramid to the apex of the other?
Answered in the original post. I'm not so sure if it is correct because of big numbers.
Slant height would be the hypotenuse of a right triangle = c = 17mm
One leg would be 1/2 of the square base whose perimiter = 80 so each side is 20 1/2 of which = 10mm = a
We need to find 'b' in Pythag Theor
c^2 = a^2 + b^2
17^2 = 10^2 + b^2 b = 13.748 mm Which is the height of ONE of the pyramids
From one apex to the other is TWO of the pyramid heights =........... mm
