Maybe you do not get it because I made a mistake!!!!  Sorry!

30 out of (30+31) is nuts .... or ...    30/61 is nuts

This problem as a ratio:

30/61 = 480/x     where x = total weight

solve for x = 976 gm total weight

The ratio of nuts to total weight is   30 out of 61

Substituting in the numbers you are given  (weight of nuts = 480)

the ratio of nuts to total weight is 480 to 'x'

30/61 = 480/x      Multiply both sides by 'x'

30/61 * x = 480     Mutiply both sides by 61/30

x = 976

31/30 x 480 =496 gm - the weight of the fruit in the snack.

496 + 480 =976 grams - total weight of snack.

The ratio of nuts to dried fruit is 30: 31 and you know the snack contains 480g of nuts. Therefore you can create a proportion (an equation where 2 ratios are equivalent) as follows:

Nuts Fruits
30 31
480 p

And then solve for the unknown p (which is the amount of fruits in grams), like:

30    = 31

480  = p

cross multiplication results in: 30p = 31 x 480

which equates to:    30p = 14880

solving for p gives: 30p / 30= 14880/ 30 (that is divide both sides by the multiplier of p, to simply get p by itself)

which equates to: p= 496

Therefore, there are 496g of dried fruit in that snack.

To get the total weight of the bar simply add the 480g of nuts and the 496g of fruits

giving you a total weight of: 480+496= 976g

480g / 30  = 16g per unit

Total units  = 30 + 31  = 61

61 x 16g   =  976g

cool cool cool
