One-half of a road construction project was completed by 6 workers in 12 days. Working at the same rate, what is the smallest number of workers needed to finish the rest of the project in exactly four days?

It would take the 6 workers  24 days to complete the whole project....then, each worker completes

1/144 of the job each day.

 

So.....

 

(1/144)x * 4 days   = 1/2 of the job   .......   where x is the number of workers  we need

 

(1/144)x  = 1/8

 

x = 144/8  = 18 workers
