The density of a neutron star in the center is a whopping 1.00 × 1018 kg/m3!! Suppose you had a cube of this material that was an inch (2.54 cm) on each side. What would it's mass be?

A.2.54 × 1013 kg

B.6.16 × 1018 kg

C.1.63 × 1013 kg

D.1.7 × 1019 kg

First you have to find the volume of the cube:

V=r^3=2.54^3 =16.39 cubic cm =1.639×10^-5 m^3  (cubic meters)

Density=mass/volume

10^18 =m/1.639 x 10^-5 multiply both sides by 1.639 x 10^-5

m=10^18 x (1.639 x 10^-5)

m=16,390,000,000,000=~1.64 x 10^13 kg - mass of cubic inch of neutron matter. The answer? "C"

DID YOU KNOW? At these densities, the total mass and size of planet Earth would be squeezed into a cube of about 600 feet on each side!!!!!. Now, that is DENSE!!.
