Vf = Vi + (-9.8m/s^2)*t  whereVf is the velocity at any time, Vi = 16.67m/s and t = 1  ......so we have

Vf = 16.67/m/s + (-9.8m/s^2) (1s)  =

Vf = 16.67m/s - 9.8m/s  =

Vf = 6.87m/s   [ the potato is still rising after 1 sec ]
