PLease show the steps (NEED EQUATION+WAY SOLVED)
1.)one half of a number added to 8 is 14 Let n be the number
B.)Then to verify the solution, subsitiute n=(blank) into the equation
Left side: Right side:
8 + (1/2)n = 14 multiply everything by 2
16 + n = 28 subtract 16 from both sides
n = 12
Check answer
8 + (1/2)*12 = 14
8 + 6 = 14
14 = 14
This question is a little tricky Does it mean 1/2 ( number added to eight) or 1/2number added to eight ??? It could be either....Chris gave you the second version. (it would be clearer if it said ' one-half of a number WHICH is added to eight'....but it doesn't) Here is the First Version
1/2 (n + 8) = 14 Use distributive property to multiply through
1/2n + 1/2 (8) = 14
1/2n + 4 = 14 Subtract 4 from each side
1/2n = 10 Multiply both sides by 2
n= 20
Substitute to check 1/2 (20 + 8) = 14
10 + 4 + 14 yep, checks out !
