An ice cream cone costs $1.60 each. Each customer is entitled to buy another two at a discount of $0.30 off the orignal price each after buying three. Find the maximum number of ice cream cones Owen can buy with $24 and the amount of money he will have in the end after buying the ice cream cones.
5 * $1.60 = $8
2 * $0.30 = $0.60
$8 - $0.60 = $7.40 ( 1 group of 3 ice cream cones at
orignal price and 2 ice cream cones at discounted
price)
$24 ÷ $7.40 = 3 R $1.80
$1.80 ÷ $1.60 = 1 R $0.20
3 * 5 = 15
15 + 1 = 16
Owen can buy 16 ice cream cones and he will have
$0.20 left.
