A bowl has 85 pieces of candy. Nineteen children empty the bowl of candy. Some children take 3 pieces, some children take 5 pieces, and 1 child takes 7 pieces of candy. How many children take 3 pieces of candy?

I have no idea what to do.

85 - 7 candies taken by 1 child =78 candies left.

78 candies are distibuted among remaining 18 children

A + B =18

78 =3*A + 5*B, solve for A and B

A = 6 children who took 3 candies each.

B = 12 children who took 5 candies each.

Check:[6*3 + 5*12 + 1*7] =[18 + 60 + 7] = 85 candies.
