My volleyball team plays three games a week. In the first four weeks, my team lost all 12 of our games. In the fifth week, my team won two games and lost one game, bringing us to 2 wins and 13 losses. Each week after that, my team won two games and lost one game. At the end of which week will my team have won at least 60% of its games?

i am stuck on this! (10, 12, and 37 are wrong...)

We  have  this  equation

total wins                        [ 2  +  2n ]

_________     =             __________  =    .60

total games                    [ 15  + 3n ]

Where n  is the  number of weeks  after  the  5th week

Multiply  both sides  by   15 + 3n  and we have that

2 + 2n   =   .60 [15 + 3n ]

2 + 2n  =  9  + 1.8n      subtract  1.8n, 2  from both sides

.2n = 7      divide  both sides  by  .2

n =  35

So..it will take   5 + n =  5 + 35 =   40 weeks to reach a  60%  winning percentage

Proof:

After   40  weeks  we  have   2 + 2(35)  =   72 wins

And  15 + 3(35)  =  120  games will have been played

So

72  / 120    =   .60

cool cool cool
