Line  L1 represents the graph of 3x+4y=-14. Line  L2 (-5, 7) passes through the point, and is perpendicular to line L1. If line  L2 represents the graph of y=mx+b, then find m+b.

Thank you,

3x  +  4y  = -14

Slope of  this line  =  -3/4

Slope of perpendicular line =  negative reciprocal   =    4/3

So....using  ( -5, 7)    we  have

y  = (4/3)( x - - 5)  + 7

y = ( 4/3) ( x + 5)   +  7

y = (4/3)x  +  20/3  +  7

y = (4/3)x  +  20/3  + 21/3

y =  (4/3) x   +  41/3

m = 4/3     b =  41/3

m +  b =   45/3    =  15

Thank you so much CPhill! I think the answer is 41/3+4/3=45/3 which is equivilent to 15
