Standard form   2x^2 - 4x - 16 = 0

 

Factored   (2x+4)(x-4) = 0

 

2x+4 = 0           or    x-4 = 0  

x = -2            oro      x = 4

 

Sustitute in -2  to see if the equation 'works'     then try x= 4 to see if it too, works.....
