Write a system of equations to describe the situation below, solve using any method, and fill in the blanks.

Two students in the same Spanish class, Brian and Jerry, plan to get together after school to make vocabulary flashcards. Brian started on the project yesterday and has already made 8 flashcards. Jerry hasn't started yet. Since Brian makes 8 flashcards per minute and Jerry makes 9 flashcards per minute, Jerry will soon have the same number of flashcards. How long will that take? How many flashcards will each student have at that point?

In  minutes, each student will have  flashcards.

  Brian = 8 + 8m

 Jerry = 9m                         m = minutes

When are they equal?

8+ 8m  = 9m    subtract 8m from both sides

8 = m                   in 8 minutes they will have the same amount       8 + 8m = 8 + 8(8) = 72 cards each
