I drove to the beach at a rate of \(40\)miles per hour. If I had driven at a rate of \(30\) miles per hour instead, then I would have arrived \(20\) minutes later. How many miles did I drive?

I'm kind of stuck, can someone help? thanks!

rate  x   time = distance

rate1 = 40

rate 2 = 30 m/hr

t1 = t

t2 = t + 1/3         (1/3 =  20 minutes)

Equate the distances

40 t   =   30 (t+1/3)       solve for t      then distance =   40 t
