The "fast'' office copier makes 45 copies per minute. The slower copier copies at a rate of 30 copies per minute. If Ylsa starts copying a 500-page report on the slower copier but switches after 5 minutes to the faster copier, to the nearest minute, how long does it take Ylsa to copy the entire report?

After 5 minutes, Ylsa has printed 30*5 = 150 pages, and has 500 - 150 = 350 pages left. She prints these pages on the faster printer. This takes 350/45 = 70/9 = 7 7/9 minutes (7/9 of a minute is about 47 seconds). Adding this to the 5 minutes in the beginning, we get: 5 + 7 7/9 = 12 7/9. (Or \(12 \frac{7}{9}\))
