A line segment begins at $(2, 5)$. It is 10 units long and ends at the point $(-6, y)$ where $y > 0$. What is the value of $y$?

Distance formula between 2 points:

d^2 = (x1-x2)^2 + (y1-y2)^2

100 = (2- -6)^2 + (5 - y2)^2

100 = 64 + (5-y2)^2

36 = (5-y2)^2

6 =+- ( 5- y2)

6 = y2-5             (since we want y2>0)

11 = y2
