11x-4(ax-9) is identical to b(x+2)-2

Expand both equations and set them equal to each other: \(11x - 4ax + 36 = bx+2b-2\)

 

Subtract 2 from both sides: \(11x-4ax+38=bx+2b\)

 

We want them to be identical, so \(2b = 38\), and \(\color{brown}\boxed{b = 19}\)

 

Subsituting this in and subtracting 38 from both sides, we get: \(11x - 4ax = 19x\)

 

Solving, we find \(\color{brown}\boxed{a=-2}\)
