I have two cubes such that, on each cube, three faces are painted red and three faces are painted white. If I roll each of the cubes once, what is the probability that they will land such that there is one red face and one white face up?
Hello
Which possibilities satisy this case:
There are 2 possibilities for this to work.
Rolling a red face, then a white face.
Or rolling a white face then a red face.
Case 1: (Rolling a red face, then a white face.)
Probability of rolling a red face is 3/6, and probability of rolling a white face is 3/6.
So the probability of rolling a red face, then a white face is 3/6*3/6 = 1/4
Case 2: (Rolling a white face, then a red face.)
Probability of rolling a red face is 3/6, and probability of rolling a white face is 3/6.
So the probability of rolling a white face, then a red face is 3/6*3/6 = 1/4
Addition:
So the probability that either happen is 1/4 + 1/4 = 1/2.
I hope this helped. :))
