Two urns contain white beans and yellow beans. The first urn contains 3 white beans and 6 yellow beans and the second urn contains 3 white beans and 8 yellow beans. A ball is drawn at random from each urn. What is the probability that both beans are white?

a) 2/23

b) 1/9

c) 1/11

d) 3/10

Prob of drawing a white ball from the first urn = 3/9    =  Prob A

Prob of drawing a white ball from the second urn = 3/11  = Prob B

So

P [ Drawing one white ball from each urn ]  = Prob A * Prob B  =  3/9 * 3/11 =  1/3 * 3/11  =

1/11 * 3/3   = 1/11 *  1    = 1/11

cool cool cool
