A coin bank contains nickels, dimes, and quarters totaling $\$5.45$. Ifthere are twice as many quarters as dimes and 11 more nickels than quarters, how many of each coin are in the bank?

q = quarters

d = dimes = 1/2 q

n = nickels = q+11

 

25 q         +      10(1/2q)       + 5 (q+11)             =   545      solve for q

                                             then d = 1/2 q      and n = q+11
