All members of our painting team paint at the same rate.  If 20 members can paint a 2000 square foot wall in 40 minutes, then how long would it take the 20 members to paint a 6000 square foot wall, in minutes?

We can write this problem as a simple ratio problem:

20: 2000: 40

20: 6000: ?

Since the amount of members didn't change, we can just examine the difference in the amount of wall needed to be painted. We can notice that there is 3x the amount of wall that is needed to be painted, and therefore it should take 3x the amount of time (with the same amount of people) to paint it.

So 40 x 3= 120 minutes
