Mthsmename:

24squared + b squared = 25squared

You mean 24 2 + b 2 = 25 2?

ok, 24 2 = 576

25 2 = 625

So you habe 576 + b 2 = 625

sqrt(b 2) = sqrt(625-576)

b = _____________

solve(24^2+b^2=25^2, b)

You have to forget the negative 7, you don't need it . You'll need it only if you are in a grafic...

The -7 can only be dismissed because Mthsmename has stated that it is a pythagorean question and a side length cannnot be negative.
If it was just a straight algebra question the -7 could not be dismissed. I know that you know this already Sam.

Interesting username you have there Mthsmename. You could sign up and make it official

solve(24^2+b^2=25^2, b)

Hi King,

You have to put this inside the math brackets to make it work

solve(24^2+b^2=25^2, b)

Highlight it -> then press the math button located above the smilies. -> Then just move the curser to the end. That is it.

solve(24^2+b^2=25^2, b)
