I'm assuming by expression, you mean something like 3 + 2.

 

If you have a fraction, say, 4/5, it could also be expressed as (2+2)/5

 

Most of the time, you should simplify the expression as much as possible since it is easier to understand a simpler fraction rather than a fraction with pluses and minuses and multiplication signs.
