I do not think the first one can be determined using limits.  (It is undefined)

the second one is very straight forward  it is just e^0 and that has the defined value of 1.

any number to the power of 0 is 1

e is just a special irrational number. Its value is approx 2.718

ok, I did not think about the question properly.

let alpha be a very small positive number

if x=1+alpha  then  1/(x-1)  is a positive huge number.

tan of a positive huge number

if x=1-alpha  then 1/(x-1)  is a negative equally huge number.

tan of a positive huge number is not equal to tan of a negative equally huge number.

So yes I suppose it is reasonable to conclude that the function is not continuous at x=1.
