ok haley1 if the angle is 40, and the side they give you is 5, and you are using COS which do you use? Multiplication or division and why?
It's ok if you don't know i was just wondering if you did, it dosent say anything online about it so... does someone else know/
Well..it depends upon which side the "5" is
If it's the hypotenuse, we have
cos40 = a/5 where a is the adjacent side.......so
a = 5cos40 = about 3.83
If "5" is the adjacent side, we have
cos40 = 5/ h where h is the hypotenuse ......so.......
h = 5/cos40 = about 6.527
it depends what you're trying to fing
if you use SOH CAH TOA
did they give you the Adjecent or the hypthenus
cos(theta)=A/H
if A=5, then H = 5/cos(40)
if H= 5, then A = 5cos(40)
hope it helped

Why say mean things about me?
Ouch.. :(
Yep.....if a is over 5....multiply both sides by 5
If 5 is over the h.......multiply both sides by h and then divide both sides by cos40
