to add exponential values the exponents must be =. so 3.4x10^6 becomes 34x10^5. add that to 4.3x10^5 to get 38.4x10^5

Jim Beam, your method is a good one although the answer should have been 38.3 x 10 5 ,
also it should then be changed back to scientific notation 3.83 x 10 6 OR just written as an ordinary number.

(3.4 x 10^6) + (4.3 x 10^5)
The best way to do this on a calc is
3.4 exp 6 + 4.3 exp 5
If you use the exp button DO NOT put in any 10s.
