Laura is baking a cake. The recipe says that she has to mix 64 grams of chocolate powder to the flour. Laura knows that 1 cup of that particular chocolate powder has a mass of 128 grams. She added two over three of a cup of chocolate powder to the flour. Should Laura add more chocolate powder to make the exact recipe, or did she go over and by what amount?

She went over by one over three of a cup

She needs to add one over three of a cup

She needs to add one over six of a cup

She went over by one over six of a cup

OK....

1 cup has 128 grams

So......1/2 of a cup must have half of that = 64 grams

If she used 2/3 of a cup and only need 1/2 of a cup, what would be the correct answer???

Can you do this one???  (You won't learn anything if I just give you the answers.....)

OK......she needed only 1/2 of a cup......but she used 2/3 of a cup.....is 2/3 larger or smaller than 1/2???

What's the answer???  (rosala....you were close to the answer, but you made a small mistake...)

So , i know menatlly that 2/3 is more than 1/2 of a cup but for a proof lets check

1*3/2*3= 3/6

2*2/3*2 = 4/6

so 4/6 or 2/3 is greater!

OK rosala.......how much did she go over if she used 4/6 of a cup and only needed 1/2 (or 3/6) of a cup ????

CPhill, I think the problem was that some of the fractions mari used are displayed as pictures for whatever reason.

I'm having this same problem. This is what the question looks like to me:
