How much potassium is in WHAT compound??   KCl for example is a salt  made up of  K (potassium - atomic weight 39.0983) and Cl (Chlorine - Atomic weight 35.45)  so the fraction of K in any given sample would be   39.0983/(39.0983 + 35.45)  = .524469  Potassium( K)

Do you know what compound we are concerned about how much K it contains?
