If we're multiplying or dividing.....the answer is a minus

If we're adding or subtracting......the sign will be that of the number whose absolute value is greater....

Example

-10  +  6

Absolute value of  -10   = 10      absolute value  of 6  = 6   .....thus, the sign will be negative

So...we take   10   -  6    =  4      and we add the minus sign  =  -4
