Here's a pictorial view:

Balancing equation

Hmm!  Images are showing only as icons!  I hope this is temporary.

Yes, it was temporary - I can now see images again!

3x+3=21

The idea is to get x by itself

you start by getting all the xes on one side and all the numbers that don't have xes on the other side.

So you think to yourself.  WHAT DO I NEED TO GET RID OF ??

First you need to get rid of the +3 you can do this by subtracting 3 but whatever you do to one side you must do to the other  side as well.

3x+3-3=21-3

3x=18

NOW WHAT DO I NEED TO GET RID OF ?

I need to get rid of the 3 that is in front of the x

There is an invisable multiply sign between the 3 and the x

The opposite of multiply is divide.

So divide both sides by 3

$$\\\frac{\not{3}x}{\not{3}}=\frac{18}{3}\\\\
x=6$$

REMEMBER: EQUATIONS MUST ALWAYS BALANCE

- WHAT YOU DO TO ONE SIDE YOU MUST ALSO DO TO THE OTHER SIDE !!!

There you go, that would have to be the fullest explanation I have ever given anyone !

Do you have any questions?

What browser are you using Chris?  I just get icons in Google Chrome and in IE.

I can right-click and select Open image in new tab to see them, but I also have to put up with a lot of extraneous material, like adverts, this way.

I use Firefox..very stable browser..with some nice optional add-ons (if you're into to that sort of thing)..Chrome is good......I don't recommend IE....AT ALL!!.....very "buggy"....in fact, the standing joke in the computer world is....."What is the definition of IE???....Answer: "It's the browser people use to download OTHER browswers!!!

(I've also used Opera....very good, too!!)

Just my opinion, of course......

Yep, Google Chrome is the best! Works great with minimal issues! It could be that you need to completely clear the cache, update to the latest version, or see if your settings may be messing with it!

This is probably the best way to tackle that problem: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/112568?hl=en
