Going to highschool next year, and I have a choice between:
AP Computer Science
or...
Orchestra
I personally want to take AP Computer Science, but my parents want me to go the musical path. They said I need variety, and that taking orchestra is good. I want AP Computer Science, because most jobs in the future require that topic and also its an important skill for me to learn. Its also an AP class, so I might get college credit.
I have been doing orchestra for 3 years, and I hate it. Music to me has been a slow grind of boring and mundane repetition. I enjoy STEM, and I really want to go down the STEM path.
Is it worth the "variety" when I apply for colleges, or is it worth the investment in STEM?
Why do something that you hate [ if you're not required to ] ????
Follow your heart......it will rarely fail you.....
Rip but my parents are forcing me to do orchestra nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Music will be challenging and sometimes annoying, I know cus I play the oboe and sometimes I don't even like playing it. I would just play an instrument as a hobby and do computer science.
Music is great if you have a passion for it. I expect your parents are very passionate about it.
Computer science is more practical for most peope.
I was 'made' to do music for many years when I was young. It was not the best use of my time but even so I have never been sorry that i learned it.
Music is like mathematics in that it is a language of its own. I do not play an instrument any more but I am still glad that I have some understanding of how music is constructed. I am glad I can still more or less read music and understand some musical terms. This helps me to appreciate the actual muisic more.
Talk to your parents, maybe you can reach a compromise and do music in some less intense, more recreational, way.
