Let p(x)=x^2, q(x) = 2x^3 + 1, and r(x)=7x^4 - 5x^3 - 6x - 2. Find p(q(x)) + r(x).
p(q(x)) means that we are putting q into p
So we have
(2x^3 + 1)^2 = 4x^6 + 4x^3 + 1
Now....we are just adding r to this....so....
4x^6 + 4x^3 + 1 + 7x^4 - 5x^3 - 6x - 2 =
7x^4 - x^3 - 6x - 1
Sorry, I'm a bit confused. How did the 4x^6 get canceled out?
Oops slight mistake.....should be
4x^6 +7x^4 -x^3 -6x - 1
