\(2 - \frac{x+1}{x-2}-\frac{x-4}{x+2} = \frac{ax+b}{x*x-4}\) Please click if you can't see the eqaution. Can someone please explain why these are equal! (I couldn't write x squared hence the x*x)

They're not equal.

The object of the exercise will be to calculate the values of a and b in order that the lhs and rhs are identical, (when the terms on the lhs are grouped to form a single term).
