If a word problem states "A boat traveled 336 miles downstream and back" would I divide 336 by 2, or does the boat travel 336 miles there and 336 miles back?

------------------

Full problem:

A boat traveled 336 miles downstream and back. The trip downstream took 12 hours. The trip back
took 14 hours. What is the speed of the boat in still water? What is the speed of the current?

------------------

Thanks a bunch

I think the boat would travel 336 mile there and 336 mile back

Hope that helps

I'd interprete it the other way around but either interpretatin would be valid.

Isn't it irritating when people do not ask their questions unambiguously.
