The first term of a geometric series is 1 and the common ratio is 9. What is the 8th term of the sequence?
Re: The first term of a geometric series is 1 and the common ratio is 9. What is the 8th term of the sequence?
Mmmmm....... let's look at this again.
Note that the first few terms of the series are
1, 9 , 81.......
So the first term is just 9^0
And the second term is 9^1
So, the nth term is given by 9^(n-1)
I'll let you take it from there.......
Okay so the idiot who posted the other answer is COMPLETELY WRONG
Basically in a geometric series the "common ratio" is the value of any number in the series divided by the number before it in the series.
So if I had a common ratio of 2 and a1 was 10 the series would look like
10, 20, 40, 80, 160... etc
So in this case it would be
1, 9, 81... etc until you get the eighth term :)
Good luck
