the formaula (square route) a squared + b squared gives you the longest side, c, on a right-angled triangle if you know the two shorter sides a and b. find the longest side if: a=4 and b=3.
It´s just to replace the a with 4 and the b with 3
$${\mathtt{c}} = {\sqrt{{{\mathtt{a}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{{\mathtt{b}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}}}}$$
$${\mathtt{c}} = {\sqrt{{{\mathtt{4}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{{\mathtt{3}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}}}}$$
