The formula db=20logS-26 approximately describes the relationship between of a sound in micropascals S and its reading on the decibel scale DB. if a bird singing produces a sound reading of about 400 uPa, and a jumbo jet produces a reading of 100 Pa, use the formula to convert these to their corresponding decibel values

20log(400) - 26 = about 26 db  for the singing bird

For the second,  100Pa = 100,000,000 μPa...so we have

20log(100,000,000) - 26  = about 134 db
