The height of a cylindrical can is 2.25 inches greater than the measure of the can’s diameter. The volume of the cylinder is 52.18 in^3. What are the can’s dimensions? Use 3.14 for pi.

Volume of a cylinder = pi r^2 h

h = 2r+2.25   (given)    and  V = 52.18 in^3  (given)

Substitute

52.18 = (3.14) (r^2)(2r+2.25)      expand

52.18 = (3.14) (2r^3 + 2.25 r^2)   divide by 3.14

16.617834 = 2r^3 + 2.25r^2             re-rrange

2r^3 +2.25r^2 - 16.617834 = 0       Solving GRAPHICALLY     r = 1.7115 in

So the cylinder is    d = (1.7115 x 2 ) = 3.423 in   &      h= 2.25 + d = 5.673 in

I thought it would be height*diameter not adding them oops
