I always see the letter e after a few decimal places as round but I don't understand what it represents. Can anyone explain what is the letter e here:

It is to denote a super small number or a large number. 

 

In this case, 8.12342e-07 is equal to 0.000000812343

8.12342e-07    = 8.12342 X 10-7           edited....forgot the  ' - ' sign

Guest, that is incorrect, As you can see, you can see the negative sign, so it is $8.12342 \cdot 10^{-7}$ instead.
