the perimeter of a kite is 66cm. The lenght of one of its sides is 3cm less than twice the lenght of another. Find the length of each side of the kite
Let the shorter side be = x
Then the longer side = 2x - 3
So we have
2[x + (2x - 3)] = 66 divide both sides by 2
x + 2x - 3 = 33 simplify
3x - 3 = 33 add 3 to both sides
3x = 36 divide both sides by 3
x = 12 cm = the shorter side
And 2x - 3 = 2(12) - 3 = 21 cm = the longer side
