5% of the original population = 7

0.05p = 7

p = 7 / 0.05 = 140

 

The original population = 140 people. 7 people died. So the current population = 140 - 7 = 133

In this situation you could alsomultiply the 5% and the 7 by 20, since it would make up 100%. Then of course subtract 7
