30 is the total number of students and 16 is the total number of boys. So 16 of the 30 students are boys.

$${\frac{{\mathtt{16}}}{{\mathtt{30}}}}$$ is the fraction, and now we just have to simplify it: 16/30 ÷ 2/2 = 8/15.
