if cosx(degree)=0.788, then cos(x+0.5)(degree)=?

(A)0.623

(B)1.29

(C)0.793

(D)38

(E)0.783

can i do it like:

cos(x+0.5)

If cos (x)°  = 0.788

Then

arccos(0.788)   = x =  38°

So

cos( x + 0.5)°   =

cos(38 + 0.5)°  = about 0.7826 = about  0.783    (E)

E is the answer

cos (x +0.5)  NOT EQUAL to cos x + cos 0.5

Remember, Solveit.....it we're given the value of some trig function, we have to take the inverse to find what angle that function is referring to.

In this case, we know that the cosx = 0.788

So....to find out what x is, we need to take the cosine inverse to find the angle where the cosine is equal to 0.788.
