three men rent a hotel and the hotel room cost $30 and the three men split the bill and paid $10 each. while they were in there room the clerk at the front desk realized that the room was only $25. so she gave the bellboy $5 to give back to the men. in the hallway outside the door of the men's room the bellboy realized that $5 could not be split evenly between the three men. so the bellboy came to a conclusion and gave each of the men $1 and kept the leftover $2 for himself. It now seems that each guest has paid $9 for the room (that makes $27), and the bellboy has $2, for a total of $29. where is the missing dollar???
You done maths wrong. The room is $30. They pay $10 each. They then are given $1 each. So they Pay $9 each, which is $2 extra, than the $25.
What you are saying, is that the men are only paying $9, when, in fact, they are actually paying $9.66, because of the $2 the bellboy is taking. There is no missing dollar. The cost of the room ($25) plus the cost of the bus boy($2) is equal to the amount paid by the 3 guests($27). They have the money given back to them($3, $1 for each) with themselves, which equals the total starting price of $30.
Great job that is some amazing logical skills you have there ive met very few people that are able to do that right there i would like for you too check out this website brilliant.org out of all the people that have ever attempted this problem only 11% got this right Great job
Sorry about that wait, was checking out that website. Looks pretty cool.
Actually ...they only pay $9 each
Total costs = Room and Tip
The room is $25....split 3 ways......that is $ [8 + 1/3] apiece
The tip is $2......split 3 ways......that is $ [2/3] apiece
So...the total cost to each is $ [ 8 + 1/3 + 2/3] = $9
And they get $1 back each......which is the correct change
