a. Complete the following hypothetical 1000 two-way table: (i think i got the chart correctly)
| Passed the exam | Did not pass the exam | Total |
Male | 380 | 70 | 450 |
Female | 220 | 330 | 550 |
Total | 600 | 400 | 1000 |
b. Estimate the probability that a student selected at random from those enrolled in the classes passed the course.
c. A student was randomly selected from the student that completed the exam. If the selected student was male what is the probability this student passed the exam?
d. A student was randomly selected from the students that completed the class. If the selected student is female, what is the probability this student passed the course?
e. Do you think gender and whether or not a student passes the exam are related?
OK...table looks correct.
b out of 1000 students 600 passed so 600/1000 = 3/5 = 60 %
c 380 out of 450 males passed the exam 380/450 = 38/45 = 84% of males passed the exam.
d 220/550 = 22/55= 40% of females passed the exam
e It DOES appear that if student is a male , student is more likely to pass the exam.
